Robert Falkner

Robert Falkner is Senior Lecturer in International Relations at the London School of Economics. He received his M.A. in politics and Diplom- Volkswirt (M.Sc. Economics) from Munich University and D.Phil. InInternational Relations from Oxford University (Nuffield College). Before joining the LSE in 2002, Robert Falkner held teaching positions at the universities of Munich, Oxford, Kent and Essex. In 2006-07, he was a visiting scholar at Harvard University.

At the LSE, Robert currently serves as programme director of the MSc in International POlitical Economy and convenor of the Summer School. He is an associate of the LSE's Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment and an associate fellow of the Energy, Environment and Development Programme at Chatham House.

His research interests are in the field of international political economy, with special emphasis on global environmental politics, multinational corporations, risk regulation and global governance. His work has been supported by research grants from the ESRC, EU, Rockefeller Foundation and MacArthur Foundation, among others.

His recent publications include Business Power and Conflict in International Environmental Politics (Basingstoke: Palgrave Macmillan, 2008) and The International Politics of Genetically Modified Food: Diplomacy, Trade and Law (edited, Palgrave Macmillan, 2007).He recently coordinated an international research project on the transatlantic dimensions of nanomaterials regulation, which resulted in the publication of a major report on Securing the Promise of Nanotechnologies: Towards Transatlantic Regulatory Cooperation (2009).
